MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2015

Like every year, the Milan Design Week confirms its role as a key event with a strong appeal. The B&B Italia presentation at the Store in Via Durini focuses on the living area, with brand new, functional, innovative and sophisticated products for the home.
The new 2015 B&B Italia projects include sofas, chairs, tables, service elements and storage units by Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa and Vincent Van Duysen.
Maxalto confirms its wide and tasteful collection. The new Solatium seating system, the Febo chairs and daybed, the Acanto chairs, the Fulgens stools, the Recipio table and a series of new functional elements bring new suggestions.
The star attractions of B&B Italia Outdoor are the new Butterfly (pictured below) and Fat-Sofa Outdoor seating systems and service elements by Patricia Urquiola, besides the new dining tables, small tables and console of the Mirto collection by Antonio Citterio. Last but not least, an extension of the Crinoline and Husk series, also by Patricia Urquiola.

The Grand Papilio

The name recalls the butterfly because, as explained by the author, "the backrest designs the two wings with the head resting between them and protected by them.
The Grande Papilio arm chair for B&B Italia was designed by Naoto Fukasawa. With its fluid curves it's the ultimate in comfort and relaxation.
The zipper along the back gives the Grande Papilio armchair the appearance of a single form made of a single material. Its organic design is equipped with a swivel system that provides a 360° view of the room. The seat also has an ottoman for those extra long days.

Sitting Down on the Job

An Interview with the one and only Robert Sweep, stylist Jaia Talisman gets the “Nitty Gritty” on what’s going down

Whilst sitting with him, I had a challenging question. "What color trend should we follow this year RS?”

With cautionary eyes, and a slightly raised tone he answers, “Oh, trend is so short term, never follow a trend, “ he warns. “If you must follow a trend, try to play the big moments or colors, and try to think what it will move forward in a few years. For example 'Grey Grey Cold Cold' is already gone, but rather moving to a softer format of Grey with a Brown tone in it.”

"Well what about adding another color RS?”, I ask with innocence.

“Add a splash of color? Absolutely! He smiles, “Velour pink, dark velour blue, soft blues and soft pale yellow-greens. For more long term that is livable, cream, warmer tones and richer materials are where it’s at and will be very strong this year.”

So now you know....

One on one with Robert

When Robert Sweep comes to work each day, what are the first things are on his mind? Enquire no more. I asked him these questions and this is what he had to say.

“What client needs my immediate attention? And who will walk in today with a design plan and needs our services? I mean I love seeing a new concept come together for a client. As well as finding the newest latest product or design that I can announce to the public. That’s what is so exciting about what I do”.

Customize your upcoming project with Robert Sweep himself. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have him be by your side to cultivate your shopping experience with Robert’s professional eye? We thought so too. Give us a ring to book your one on one consultation with Robert and book him exclusively for complete involvement. First a one time fee is determined, there will be no large ongoing fee billing that gets out of control. A 24/7 service available for all requests with complete involvement. No mark ups on outside contractors or work with our complete team involved.

Roberts words of wisdom? “Live the dream. whatever that means to you.” Robert’s favorite saying? “Do It!” The two hand in hand are rules for creating a Successful Life. Take a chance and live it!

“Trends are short term, like 1-2 years. If you follow a trend, try to down play the Big Moments or Colors etc. Think what will move forward in a few years. Grey and cold is already gone, but moving to a softer format of grey-brown tones and a splash of color (such as velour pink, dark velour blue, soft blues and soft pale yellow greens) will have a longer life span. Strong this year? Warmer tones and richer materials is where it’s at.
