Tufty-Time in the New York Times!

Check out our B&B Italia ad for Tufty-Time in the #NewYorkTimes.

An expression of the Chesterfield and capitonné style, Tufty-Time modernises them with a free and casual lifestyle. The system finds effective answers to the themes of modularity, comfort and removable covers by forming the various elements that create traditional linear sofas, corner sofas, peninsula-shaped compositions and island elements allowing 360-degree seating. The upholstery in fabric or leather is subdivided into large squares that are joined by pleats, perforated in the leather version.

MOOOI LAUNCHES CARPET COMPANY

Dutch design brand Moooi is launching a new company called Moooi Carpets with an inaugural collection of photo-realistic designs by Studio Job, Ross Lovegrove, Neri&Hu and more.

The company uses advanced technology to print designs directly onto carpet at a higher definition than has been possible before. Its printing plant can print everything from rugs to full-width fitted carpet and can produce one-off designs.

"It's the reinvention of the carpet," added Moooi CEO Casper Vissers.

The carpets are produced using a giant machine that measures 100 metres long. Its size allows it to print designs up to four metres wide in unlimited colours, without having to change the dye injectors in its Chromojet printer.

"Moooi Carpets opens up new horizons in the design world by introducing a technology that generates extremely high-definition prints, which can even result in photo-realistic flooring solutions," said a statement from the brand.

"This revolutionary machine is the cutting-edge result of a massive investment in terms of money and time," said Moooi. "Several million euros and two years of building and testing have paid off."

The brand's collection is composed of three different families: Signature, Moooi Works and Your Own Design.

Today Milan Design Agenda introduces you B&B Italia 2015 new outdoor collection, at the upcoming Milan Design Week 2015..but this it not an usual collection! Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio are the responsibles for highly creative proposals to bring the quality and comfort of B&B Italia outside.

BUTTERFLY - seating system by Patricia Urquiola
Butterfly gets its name from the “butterfly” shape created by the outer corner that joins the armrest and the backrest. It is a modular seating system that responds effectively to the needs of modularity and comfort, suitable for free and informal usage.
The combination of these elements, using a simple joint system, makes it possible to freely set up versatile configurations, from in-line sofas to corner solutions, from front-facing to lounge layouts. This first textile sofa in B&B Italia Outdoor collection is characterised by soft and sinuous shapes.
BUTTERFLY - complements by Patricia Urquiola
The Butterfly complements have an outline that perfectly follows the lines of the sofa, harmoniously flanking the seat at the top. The family consists of round, square and rectangular low tables and a small table.
They all feature a large weave pattern, made of tortora coloured twisted polyethylene fibres that wraps around the grey painted aluminium frame. Two finishes are available for the surfaces of the complements: white Carrara statuarietto marble or thermotreated ash wooden slats.
FAT-SOFA OUTDOOR – seating system by Patricia Urquiola
The rounded, soft and sinuous shapes of the Fat-Sofa seating system are the base for the new outdoor version, characterized by a brand new interlacing design. Its fully padded seat is accompanied by a metal frame backrest that supports the original weave, creating a special play of fullness and emptiness.
MIRTO – complements by Antonio Citterio
The Mirto series, a new contemporary classic in the world of outdoor furniture for which the company performed substantial research, is now enriched by a wide range of complements in different types and sizes.
The range of dining tables is now broader, three rectangular models and one square. Console, bench and different sizes of small tables complete the offer. The finish of the frame and of the upper top is white or tortora, for elegant monochrome solutions, or wooden slatted natural brushed Iroko for a contrasting look.
CRINOLINE - stools by Patricia Urquiola
A stool, available in two heights, is the latest addition to the Crinoline seat series. It comes with a bright stainless steel frame, a removable seat cushion, and a polyethylene interlacing in the colours white/black, bronze/black and tortora, the new finish now offered on the entire Crinoline family.

NEW 2015 MAXALTO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

“There are only two places wherewe live happily: at home and in Paris” Ernest Hemingway

And indeed, Maxalto is perfectly at home in Paris, in an imposing and fascinating, typically Haussmannian building that serves as the backdrop for the new advertising campaign. White wood panelling and intricate stucco work, alongside a sequence of large windows perfectly mirrored by doors, highlight its contemporary aesthetic and timeless elegance. Based on Antonio Citterio’s creative project, the setting pays a personal and rigorous tribute to the greatest French interior decorators of the early 1900s.

In the living area, the furniture is laid out to reflect the environment’s symmetry, with each object mirrored by another, and the whole coming together to create a world of its own.

The dining area is deliberately more confined, making the atmosphere cosier and friendlier. Natural and black oak expertly coexist, with a large storage unit revealing an unexpected and illuminated fine leather interior.

Whether in Paris, New York, Milan or Tokyo; in a period residence or in a glazed penthouse: anytime, anywhere, the Maxalto collection is an expression of luxury and rigour, creativity and balance, versatility and personality.

Welcome chez Maxalto, as from March in the most prestigious Italian and international magazines.

MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2015

Like every year, the Milan Design Week confirms its role as a key event with a strong appeal. The B&B Italia presentation at the Store in Via Durini focuses on the living area, with brand new, functional, innovative and sophisticated products for the home.
The new 2015 B&B Italia projects include sofas, chairs, tables, service elements and storage units by Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Naoto Fukasawa and Vincent Van Duysen.
Maxalto confirms its wide and tasteful collection. The new Solatium seating system, the Febo chairs and daybed, the Acanto chairs, the Fulgens stools, the Recipio table and a series of new functional elements bring new suggestions.
The star attractions of B&B Italia Outdoor are the new Butterfly (pictured below) and Fat-Sofa Outdoor seating systems and service elements by Patricia Urquiola, besides the new dining tables, small tables and console of the Mirto collection by Antonio Citterio. Last but not least, an extension of the Crinoline and Husk series, also by Patricia Urquiola.

The Grand Papilio

The name recalls the butterfly because, as explained by the author, "the backrest designs the two wings with the head resting between them and protected by them.
The Grande Papilio arm chair for B&B Italia was designed by Naoto Fukasawa. With its fluid curves it's the ultimate in comfort and relaxation.
The zipper along the back gives the Grande Papilio armchair the appearance of a single form made of a single material. Its organic design is equipped with a swivel system that provides a 360° view of the room. The seat also has an ottoman for those extra long days.

Sitting Down on the Job

An Interview with the one and only Robert Sweep, stylist Jaia Talisman gets the “Nitty Gritty” on what’s going down

Whilst sitting with him, I had a challenging question. "What color trend should we follow this year RS?”

With cautionary eyes, and a slightly raised tone he answers, “Oh, trend is so short term, never follow a trend, “ he warns. “If you must follow a trend, try to play the big moments or colors, and try to think what it will move forward in a few years. For example 'Grey Grey Cold Cold' is already gone, but rather moving to a softer format of Grey with a Brown tone in it.”

"Well what about adding another color RS?”, I ask with innocence.

“Add a splash of color? Absolutely! He smiles, “Velour pink, dark velour blue, soft blues and soft pale yellow-greens. For more long term that is livable, cream, warmer tones and richer materials are where it’s at and will be very strong this year.”

So now you know....

When Robert Sweep comes to work each day, what are the first things are on his mind? Enquire no more. I asked him these questions and this is what he had to say.

“What client needs my immediate attention? And who will walk in today with a design plan and needs our services? I mean I love seeing a new concept come together for a client. As well as finding the newest latest product or design that I can announce to the public. That’s what is so exciting about what I do”.

Customize your upcoming project with Robert Sweep himself. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have him be by your side to cultivate your shopping experience with Robert’s professional eye? We thought so too. Give us a ring to book your one on one consultation with Robert and book him exclusively for complete involvement. First a one time fee is determined, there will be no large ongoing fee billing that gets out of control. A 24/7 service available for all requests with complete involvement. Roberts words of wisdom? “Live the dream. whatever that means to you.” Robert’s favorite saying? “Do It!” The two hand in hand are rules for creating a Successful Life. Take a chance and live it!

“Trends are short term, like 1-2 years. If you follow a trend, try to down play the Big Moments or Colors etc. Think what will move forward in a few years. Grey and cold is already gone, but moving to a softer format of grey-brown tones and a splash of color (such as velour pink, dark velour blue, soft blues and soft pale yellow greens) will have a longer life span. Strong this year? Warmer tones and richer materials is where it’s at.
